It’s been 9 months since having my baby and successfully went through pregnancy without any stretch marks. I have been researching since the beginning of my pregnancy how to prevent them. Even though research shows it is mainly due to genetics (I have a family history of stretch marks), I was on a mission to do everything possible to prevent them. In this post I will share with you 5 creams that I have enjoyed using and have worked well for my dry itchy eczema prone skin. I have tried a lot of products these past few months from drugstore to high end and the ones listed below are the ones that worked the best for me
1. Biossance 100% squalene oil
I used this oil in the mornings and I found it to be my basic easy to use daily oil. There is no smell, very light and absorbs quite quickly. When I used this alone, I found it was quite mositurzing but not enough for my dry, scaly eczema prone skin. I would say if you have normal to dry skin this would work well for you. I am not sure if it has helped with preventing any stretch marks but I can say it does absorb quickly which I hope means it is being absorbed deep into my skin. I do find a little goes a long way. The price is quite high for a 100ml bottle but I did repurchase a second bottle during a Sephora sale and had been using it daily. 2. Organic butter balm
I received this as a gift from my sister in law. This product is hand made in small badges with all organic ingrediants. I really liked how this is a multipurpose balm that could also be used on the baby. This worked wonders on my eczema. It is a very rich balm. A little goes a long way. It melts nicely and absorb deeply into your skin making you feel very hydrated. I definitely recommened this one.
3. Josie Maren body butter
This body butter has been quite nice and light to use throughout pregnancy. I got the unscented version and it absorbed very quickly. This butter is best for individuals with normal to dry skin. I do wish the price wasn’t so high and that the jar lasted longer but you can get this jar on sale during Sephora sales.
4. Aveeno eczema balm
I first started using the aveeno eczema cream and really liked it but then I saw the balm and I had to try it. This cream was my holy grail during pregnancy and postpartum. I know this is not organic and probably has the most chemicals but this has really helped when my belly was extremely itchy and flaky. My go to cream is usually gold bond (see my post on eczema) but I wanted to use something that had less chemicals. It is very rich yet absorbs very nicely. Plus price per a ml is the best value. It is only $20 for a very big tub and it lasts a long time!
5. Organic Castor Oil
I bought this originally for my eyelashes and hair a while back but could never finish the bottle so I decided to us it on my belly and I must say I have been loving this! It is a very thick and heavy oil you have to massage in. It is a bit of a tacky feel at first but once you rub it in, it makes your skin extremely soft. Plus castor oil helps increase circulation to where you are applying it and apparently helps with body pains. It is perfect for applying before bed after a nice warm bath. I bought mine at a local store that but you can definitely find it here.
